Posted: June 18, 2015 $30K tube landing complete on Menomonie Street

There is a new and safe way to navigate in and out of the Eau Claire River that started Wednesday.

A trail and tube landing is ready to use just off of Menomonie Street. It was made possible by the Water Street Business Improvement District. The goal was to provide another way for people to safely enter and exit the water.

"We have a lot of people who inner tube from down at Phoenix Park and there really wasn't anywhere safe in our district for people to get out," Lisa Aspenson, a member of the improvement board, said. "So people were using pathways that were very dangerous and eroding our river banks and this is just a beautiful setting. A lot of people who are using the inner tubes come in from the river and are living in the neighborhood."

The project cost the BID board more than $30,000 to complete, which is three years worth of their budget.
