Posted: June 15, 2015 Downtown theater cut the ribbon after its recent renovations

Downtown Eau Claire celebrated the re-opening of what locals have coined the “budget theater,” with a ribbon cutting ceremony.  The ceremony took place at Micon Cinemas Downtown Budget Cinema, 315 S. Barstow St.

The Downtown Budget Cinema recently underwent renovations to bring Downtown Eau Claire “a new movie viewing experience.”  Micon Cinemas owners Mike and Connie Olson decided to incorporate a wider selection of concessions into the movie viewing experience, while maintaining the “budget” positioning.

The new menu offers movie-goers a variety of different pizzas, with crusts made by the Career Development Center, in addition to other foods such as macaroni and cheese, pulled pork sliders, ice cream sundaes, and hummus.  This new menu also offers wine, as well as domestic and specialty beer.  Of course the theater still provides popcorn – made with real butter!

Other changes to the Downtown Budget Cinema’s viewing experience included remodeling both auditoriums, equipping them with tables and offering a handicapped restroom.

Speakers for the ribbon cutting ceremony included: Kerry Kincaid, City Council President; Gregg Moore, Eau Claire County Board President; Benny Haas, South Barstow Business Improvement District Executive Committee Officer; Mike Carlson, Downtown Eau Claire, Inc. President; and Mike Schatz, Downtown Eau Claire, Inc. Executive Director.
