Posted: December 3, 2013 It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Holiday decorations are making their way out of storage and onto downtown Eau Claire streets. The downtown Christmas tree is decorated and ready for its lighting, and Eau Claire shops have pulled out the trimmings for their stores.
Each area of downtown is decorated by its own Business Improvement District, or by the individual businesses, according to Dan Goelzer, the South Barstow BID vice president and owner of The Calico Shoppe.
"Basically, the BID is trying to enhance its business area. We've always tried to make it look nice for customers coming downtown," Goelzer said.
The lighted snowflake decorations that adorn South Barstow Street light poles will again make their appearance, but have been re-vamped, he said.
City of Eau Claire electrician Jeremy Bowe has upgraded the snowflakes by replacing the old bulbs with new LED bulbs, making the snowflakes more energy efficient. The City of Eau Claire also was challenged to fit the snowflakes onto the new street lights.
Many merchants in the downtown area are decorated with fresh greenery and red ribbons, adding to the holiday atmosphere.
"If you drive around, you can the greenery and red bows up now," Goelzer said. "So that's starting to add a little Christmas look to downtown."
He said they are also working on getting the new sound system, purchased by the S. Barstow BID, up and running, in time to use it during Christmas time in the City this Saturday.
