Posted: November 8, 2013 Sculpture Dedication at the Eau Claire YMCA
On Sunday November 10th the YMCA of Eau Claire will dedicate the sculpture “Hey Mary Lou/Blindsided” which was part of this past summer’s sculpture tour. The Sculpture was donated by the Family of Brad and Scott Murphy, John and Nancy Mickelson and Eau Claire Ford/Lincoln. The dedication will take place at 1:30 PM on Sunday afternoon in front of the Y on Graham Ave.
The sculpture represents the excitement and joy of two young men playing the team sport of football along with the throw back of the nostalgia football gear. The YMCA has had a Tackle football program for young boys since the early 1960’s. Thousands of kids have learned how to be part of a team, play the game fairly, in addition to learning football skill. The YMCA has a rich history of youth development through the playing of team sports such as football. The tradition continues to this day. This sculpture was given to celebrate this tradition. Mike Carlson, President of the Board of Directors will be on hand at the dedication to thank the donors. According to Carlson, “This sculpture is very appropriate to be in front of the YMCA for many reasons.”
The sculptors were Sherri and Lee Leunig from South Dakota. They have created over 220 individual sculptures both large and small. Their business Bad River Art was established in 1989. They have had several pieces of art in the Eau Claire Sculpture tour.
