Posted: June 12, 2013 13th Annual Juneteenth Celebration!

On June 19 we encourage people to join in recognizing this day of unity, freedom, and opportunity, and to honor the diversity of all racial and ethnic groups in our community.  There will be a program at Phoenix Park at 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.  There will also be free food, music, activities for children, and other fun!   Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the Emancipation Proclamation, the document which ended slavery in the United States. It celebrates African American freedom and encourages self-development and respect for ALL cultures around our nation.  This event has now grown into a global celebration which encourages self-development and appreciation for all races and cultures.

There is no charge for this event and please remember to bring a lawn chair!
