EAU CLAIRE, WI – Downtown Eau Claire, Inc. (DECI) is proud to announce the winner of the first Downtown Enhancement Grant! Brent Stelzer of Brent Douglas Flowers submitted the selected application for the creation of portable garden planters to be placed along South Barstow Street between Lake and Seaver Streets. This grant award was made possible by a generous donation to the program by Lissa and Tom Siedow.
The judges for the initial grant cycle included:
- Cynthia Wing-Reed, B~Framed Galleries
- Tom Barland, Downtown Supporter
- Lissa Siedow, Downtown Supporter
- Becca Cooke, Red’s Mercantile
- Emilu Starck, Ruder Ware
With the $2,000 grant, Brent Douglas Flowers will create portable garden planters to be placed in the boulevard during the summer, lining the street on both sides of Barstow. Planters will be planted with vegetables and flowers in the spring and maintained by the employees, volunteers and residents of the Beacon House, American Insurance, Brent Douglas Flowers, and the Sojourner House. Responsibility of watering, weeding and other care will be distributed by all parties. During the summer, flowers will improve the beauty of the street and during harvest the shelters will have additional food.
“We are excited by the beautification and engagement this project will provide to an important gateway to Downtown!” said Mike Schatz, Executive Director of Downtown Eau Claire, Inc. The grant was presented to Mr. Stelzer at the January 3, 2018 DECI Board of Directors Meeting.
Applications for the next grant cycle will be released on Monday, April 2 and due Friday, June 1, 2018. The next grant will be awarded at the Board of Directors Meeting in July.
