Posted: October 12, 2016 Redevelopment Authority Approves Sale for New Brewery
This morning the Redevelopment Authority (RDA) approved a development agreement with Draft Beer, LLC for 1807 Oxford Avenue. Draft Beer is associated with The Brewing Projekt. The RDA also approved a short-term lease of the property until the closing, which is expected by April 2017. The development agreement and lease passed unanimously. Located directly across from the Eau Claire Children’s Theatre’s Oxford Theater, the building will be the site of a destination brewery. A public trail is currently being planned between the brewery and the Chippewa River as part of the Cannery District redevelopment project.
"It's been nearly a year since we started the process, and while it has had it's ups and downs, we're still as excited as day one to get things going at 1807," said Will Glass, President of The Brewing Projekt.
Also at this morning’s meeting, Stuart Schaefer of Commonweal Development presented a proposed development for the Redevelopment Authority-owned property known as Block 7 in Downtown's North Barstow District. The property is currently a surface parking lot located at the corner of North Barstow and Wisconsin Streets. The preliminary proposal includes a four story mixed-use building along North Barstow Street and a three story apartment building along Wisconsin Street. The remainder of the block would be surface parking, with connected underground parking below the buildings. The proposal intends to keep a commercial use facing North Barstow and incorporates some of the results of the Indoor Public Market Study. The Redevelopment Authority directed staff to continue discussions with Commonweal and explore additional funding models for the commercial space.
While discussion continues on the future of Block 7, the Redevelopment Authority approved a month-to-month lease with Market & Johnson for the parking of equipment for the construction of the Confluence Arts Center.
