Wednesday, June 20th, 2012

Downtown Eau Claire

On Wednesday, June 20 individuals and teams are needed to join ‘Team Eau Claire’ to endure the “Longest Day: Endurance, Arts and Eats around Barstow Street” a sunrise-to-sunset event hosted by Azura Memory Care, which will raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Association.

This two-part event first needs participants who are willing to challenge themselves to run, walk, bike, knit, read or do any type of activity that stretches their endurance and honors those facing Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia, while asking their family and friends to support their efforts with a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association. Activities can be done at home, work or for registered “Longest Day” participants in the free, safe, indoor workout space of the Eau Claire YMCA at 700 Graham Avenue in Eau Claire.

Individuals and Teams can join Azura Memory Care’s sponsored group, ‘Team Eau Claire’ by calling Paula Gibson, Community Relations Director at 715-491-0880 or e-mailing her at paula.gibson@azuramemory.com. There is no fee to participate in ‘Team Eau Claire” and additional information will be sent to you.

Individuals and Teams can also go online to the Alzheimer’s Association’s Longest Day website at www.alz.org/longestday to register. Each online participant will incur a participant fee of $54 to register through this site. In return, each person will receive a t-shirt and online toolkit supplied by the Alzheimer’s Association.

The second part of the “Longest Day: Endurance, Art and Eats” seeks anyone willing to shop, dine and drink at participating businesses around Eau Claire’s Barstow Street who will be donating a portion of their proceeds to the Alzheimer’s Association.

The evening starts with an Art Show and Class from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm at Brent Douglas-Flowers for Everyday featuring artwork created by the residents of Azura Memory Care through the nationally recognized ‘Memories in the Making’ art therapy program.
