Posted: July 25, 2013 Houligans is Getting a Face-Lift!

Houligans Steak and Seafood Pub has been a part of the downtown atmosphere for over a decade under the ownership of Guy Logan and Jon Seybold. This restaurant is one of the well-known downtown dining venues and has been serving customers since 1975.

In the past two years, Houligans achieved its highest rates of profit since they started, Seybold said. With increases in revenue and the construction on Barstow creating a new Downtown atmosphere, they decided some renovations were in order, he said.

They were recently approved by the Regional Business Funds board for a Downtown Façade Loan, which will be used for the renovations. Starting this summer, customers will begin to see changes on the exterior of Houligans as it begins its face-lift, Seybold said. The restaurant, however, will continue to remain open for business.

The renovation will work on the entire front of the building, up to the bottom of the second floor windows. Insulation is being updated with the addition of one and a half inch ridged foam, plus joints and seams will be air sealed. Plans calls for the removal of two stain glass windows from the front entrance area, but the rest will be restored and reframed in black. Some of the green outdoor pillars will be partially removed and recolored black as well. Black trimmings, which will go around the windows, doors, pillars, and upper and lower sections of the entrance, will be made of wood and steel. The new siding will be batten steel with a wood grain look. Using these types of trimming and siding will require less maintenance, Seybold said.

Finally, the Houligans signage may also be updated; however, Seybold said they are debating if it is necessary.

Not under debate is the future of Houligans. Seybold said they have no plans to leave Downtown Eau Claire anytime soon and will continue to “serve the Chippewa Valley with fine dining and a casual pub atmosphere” for years to come.
