Posted: February 23, 2018 Downtown’s Best Honored At The Downtownys

Eau Claire, Wis. – Downtown Eau Claire, Inc. hosted the 10th Annual Downtown Eau Claire Awards - The Downtownys - last night at The Lismore Hotel. Over 125 business and community leaders enjoyed an elegant evening that included a cocktail reception, plated dinner, entertainment by Audacious A Cappella and a UW-Eau Claire jazz combo, and the awards presentation. Businesses, organizations, and individuals were honored in eight categories.

Highlights of the evening included Ramone’s Ice Cream Parlor sweeping three categories - Best Business, Best New Business, and Best New Renovation. First year event Prex Claires & Oxbeaux came out on top in the Best Event category, and the Carson Park Causeway won Best New Development. Downtown Eau Claire, Inc. was honored to present its Outstanding Achievement Award to Bob McCoy for his support of businesses and Downtown Eau Claire throughout the years. Red’s Mercantile and Julia Johnson were honored as Member of the Year and Volunteer of the Year, respectively.

Downtown Eau Claire, Inc. was also proud to debut its new logo, brand, and website with a video presentation by local videographer J.S. Visual. DowntownEauClaire.org is sporting a new look, designed and created by Downtown member JB Systems, LLC. Local designer Stuart Sandler developed the new logo and brand that uses the image of the bridge to represent the connections and partnerships that make our City successful. Special thanks to the members of Downtown Eau Claire’s Marketing Committee for working on this throughout the last year. Outstanding Achievement Award

Presented to an individual or organization that has made significant and consistent contributions to the development and advancement of Downtown Eau Claire.

We were excited this year to honor Bob McCoy with the Outstanding Achievement Award. Bob recently retired after serving 23 years as President and CEO of the Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce. He has supported the Downtown and its businesses through his advocacy and work, including locating the Chamber in a new building along the Eau Claire River.

Member of the Year

Presented to a Downtown Eau Claire, Inc. Member that had a significant positive impact to Downtown and our organization in 2017.

We were excited this year to honor Red’s Mercantile with the Member of the Year Award. Red’s Mercantile and owner Becca Cooke were instrumental in the creation of the Downtown Enhancement Grant, and is supportive of small businesses by hosting pop-ups, workshops, and through the Red Letter Grant award to women entrepreneurs.

Volunteer of the Year

Presented to an individual that had a significant positive impact to Downtown and Downtown Eau Claire, Inc. in 2017.

We were excited this year to honor Julia Johnson with the Volunteer of the Year Award. Julia selflessly volunteers her time throughout all of Downtown, whether it’s by pulling weeds or being part of the creative team for Downtown branding. She also chairs the North Barstow/Medical Business Improvement District (BID) Board, serves on the DECI and South Barstow BID Boards, and is a tireless advocate for all things Downtown.
